Javier Tebas hits out at decision on Dani Olmo’s registration at Barcelona and warns of ‘dangerous territory’

Javier Tebas can’t seem to stop talking about Barcelona and has once again made it clear how unhappy he is with the recent decision by the CSD over Dani Olmo.

The Spain star and Pau Victor have been cleared to play for the rest of the season and will remain registered with Barcelona after the CSD finally announced its ruling this week.

La Liga have already released a statement confirming plans to appeal the decision, while Tebas has issued a lengthy complaint on social media.

“MY LEGAL OPINION ON THE CSD RESOLUTION After several hours of calmly analyzing the CSD’s decision, I want to express my complete disagreement with the approach adopted in the case of FC Barcelona’s licenses. The decision to annul the Monitoring Committee’s agreement strikes me as legally disproportionate and excessively formalistic. And I say this as a jurist.

“LaLiga denied the prior visa through LaLiga Manager, in accordance with the automated procedures that have been in place for many seasons and officially recognized by the CSD itself. That decision was made by the competent body (Competition Directorate through LaLiga Manager), and it has not been challenged by anyone and remains fully valid in my opinion.

“Yet the CSD decides to annul a subsequent decision of a Commission that simply acknowledged this prior reality, as if it were the one who made the original decision. That’s not just incorrect: it’s forcing the literal meaning of a phrase (“agrees not to grant”) to make it the focus of a nullity for “manifest incompetence.”

“This is a clear case of extreme formalism, where the essential point that the decision had already been made in accordance with the law (Competition Directorate) is ignored, and the wording is exaggerated to justify an intervention that, honestly, seems more political than legal.

“And this isn’t just about a specific resolution. It’s about defending the coherence of the system, respect for technical procedures, and legal certainty. Because if every automated, valid, and unchallenged act can be left hanging by the way a subsequent report was drafted, we are entering very dangerous territory.

“At LaLiga, we will continue to defend our powers and our processes, not out of institutional pride but out of responsibility for Spanish professional sport.”

Tebas’s comments won’t go down well at Barcelona, with Joan Laporta having already hit out at what he thinks are attempts to “destabilize” the team this season.
