Bayern Munich host Inter in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night. Speaking in Monday’s press conference, Vincent Kompany discussed the club’s current injury crisis and the importance of experience.

On Saturday it was confirmed that Jamal Musiala would be sidelined for eight weeks after picking up a hamstring injury during Friday’s Bundesliga win against Augsburg. It’s the fourth injury that the Rekordmeister have suffered to a key player in a matter of weeks with Alphonso Davies (torn ligament), Dayot Upamecano (knee injury) and Hiroki Ito (foot injury) also sidelined for the rest of the season.

“I don’t want to change my goals because we’ve got injuries,” said Kompany. “My thoughts are just about what can happen when we perform to our best.”

Speaking on the absence of Musiala, Kompany added: “We can find solutions, also creative solutions that we have available to us. For me it’s about tomorrow. We can’t replace Jamal like for like with his talent, so we need to solve things as a collective.”

Bayern Munich v Inter – the importance of experience

According to Transfermarkt, with an average age of 31, Inter’s team that started against Red Star Belgrade in October is the oldest team to play in this season’s edition of the Champions League. But of the remaining teams, Bayern Munich’s squad with an average age of 29.1 is the second-oldest that’s been fielded this season.

Speaking on the important of experience, Kompany said: “That always plays a part in games like this. But we’ve got experience in our squad – and so do Inter. We’re not lacking there in terms of depth or with the guys who will start.”
